An attorney with Wisconsin SMP (Senior Medicare Patrol), Kate spoke to us on the scope of Medicare fraud and how to recognize it. The system loses $60 billion annually to fraud … phony claims from physicians, clinics, pharmacists, & medical equipment companies. Some beneficiaries also submit fraudulent claims for partial payment.

How can you help?
  • Review your Medicare Summary Notice
  • Protect your personal information
  • Guard your Medicare number
  • Educate others
  • Don’t be afraid to ask questions about your healthcare and how it’s billed
Medicare will never call on the phone and ask for identifying information; if the caller asks for your SS number, address or other ID, hang up the phone. New SS cards are currently being issued that DON’T include your SS number for security purposes.
